White Sands film festival a family event
The White Sands International Film Festival in Alamogordo and Alto is March 16-22, 2008.
Now in its fourth year, the White Sands International Film Festival offers a uniquely diverse program of cinema, panels, and workshops. It draws a large, widespread audience from El Paso to Albuquerque and all of southern New Mexico.
This year it features innovative films from American and Latino artists of distinction. It screens movies in several competitive categories - narrative and documentary, long and short. The festival’s unique appeals are its geographic location and cultural heritage. Events occur at three venues: the new Allen Theater complex and the Space History Museum in Alamogordo, and the Spencer Theatre in Alto.
The Festival also invites attendees to enjoy the beautiful country, facilities, and pursuits that grace southern New Mexico. The proximity of Alamogordo and Las Cruces to Mexico establishes one of its important aims, which is the encouragement of artistic exchange between filmmakers and audiences in the United States and Mexico.
If you’ve never been to a film festival before, bring your family and make this your first. Film screenings, children’s events, receptions and seminars have been planned for both filmmakers and festival participants.
New Mexico’s financial incentives offered the film industry are beginning to have a major impact on tourism. And, at the same time, Hollywood is discovering what New Mexicans have always known; there is no better place to live and work.
The festival intends to develop an audience through which filmmakers, distributors and affiliated organizations can promote their creative and commercial skills.
The cost varies per event. For more information, call 1-877-345-6973, write Info@wsiff.com or visit www.wsiff.com.
